Hallo Berlin Food Stand

Over on 10th Avenue, a happy little beer garden exists in Hell's Kitchen, but the Hallo Berlin franchise also runs a tiny one-man street cart operation that has a following all its own. Basically it's the same stuff (minus the beer), but the 4-star rating on Yelp! compared to 3 stars for the beer garden probably attests to experience, which I would agree with.

The man running the show keeps his cool and takes and fills orders in a strict order. Place your order, then he fills it. He won't ask the next people for their order until you have your order and walk away. Efficiency could be questioned, but it's just the way it is here, probably leading to many people returning back to work late from lunch.

The 3-item "German Soul Food" is a mound of deliciousness

It doesn't exactly appear the most appetizing thing in the world when it is placed in your hand, but the $11 trifecta of currywurst, bratwurst, and weisswurst is excellent value for two people. It comes with plenty of toppings, sauerkraut, and a small piece of bread to soak in all the juicy remains at the end.

Coming at peak lunch time hours (the stand is only open for lunch) will require a hefty wait, so it is not recommended to come if you are pinched for time, a lesson some of us learned the hard way unfortunately. The line seemed like a friendly place though, and the businessmen waiting were all generally friendly and talkative despite everyone's growing hunger.
